Kids’ Cabaret 2020 | Ages 7-14

In this 3 week program, young singer-actors will have a chance to design, write, and perform their own musical theatre production. Students will learn the basics of staging, script writing, dancing, acting, and singing while incorporating team building and creativity. Songs from musical theatre and pop repertoire will help participants hone their ear training, musical literacy, and vocal production skills, all with improvisation games and movement activities. The session culminates in a performance of the original musical for family and friends.

In this exciting introduction to the Suzuki Method, students will enjoy a full day of music making including group violin classes, keyboard, movement, and singing. Each activity will celebrate creativity, develop the unique stregths of each student, and lay a foundation for future instrumental skills, all in a positive and fun atmosphere. The daily schedule will also include time for drama and storytelling, outdoor play, and musical games. No instrumental experience is necessary, and NSM will provide instruments.
Songs and Stories from Around the World | Ages 6-9

Week 1: Global Journey | Mon, August 10 – Fri, August 14, 2020 | Register now!
Students in this program will explore a variety of world music, including Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Using song, listening activities, rhythm games, dance, and science, participants will immerse themselves in all the beautiful sounds that occur in the outside world. The week will culminate in a short performance for family and friends.

Week 2: Guatemala & Latin America | Mon, August 17 – Fri, August 21, 2020 | Register now!
We will travel to the equator and embrace the heat as we learn about Guatemala’s native instrument, the marimba, its flutes, and its sounds of the rainforest, creating our own animal jungle story through singing, playing, and performing! We will improvise, listen, make new friends, learn stories, act, and try new ways of music-making with the support of art projects to create our own sets and costumes for our performances!

Week 3: Russia & Northern Europe | Mon, August 24 – Fri, August 28, 2020 | Register now!
As we travel to the north-eastern hemisphere, we’ll stay warm with layers for the cold as we learn Russian folk tunes and dances, creating our own colorful performance inspired by the storytelling embedded in Russian music. We will improvise, listen, make new friends, learn stories, act, and try new ways of music-making with the support of art projects to create our own sets and costumes for our performances!
